How mighty fell the Noldor elves
To set forth on thy quest

My words hear now, this solemn vow
The doom called at this hour

No hope ye bring, no victoring
No happiness you’ll sing

Though deeds you’ll reap and words you’ll keep
They’re paid in sorrows deep

No Vala hears your cries and fears
Nor sees unnumbered tears

For mountains high, enchantment tight
Will silence every single cry

Only when and only then
When pleas from elves and men

Shall sail through Valar’s mighty veil
Will they your message hail

So Spirit of Fire, your words of ire
Know this when all is dire:

Your prideful call has brought to all
Your Noldor kin, their greatest fall
